Realme X50 5G ‘Polar’ Colour Option Teased in New Render

Realme X50 5G phone is all set to launch on January 7, and now the company’s Chief Marketing Officer Xu Qi Chase has revealed a colour option of the phone. The executive has shared a back panel photo of the Realme X50 5G, showing off the white gradient rear. The new colour option will called Polar when it launches. The back panel photo reveals the quad camera setup at the back placed vertically and positioned on the top left corner. The Realme X50 5G Youth Edition is also expected to launch alongside the Realme X50 5G variant.

Chase posted the back panel photo on Weibo and confirmed that the new colour option will be called Polar. The company should unveil more colour options at launch on January 7. This Polar option sees a White finish with stripes resembling icy landscapes. The thin frame is also seen in this photo, suggesting that the Realme X50 5G will be very slim. Unfortunately, the front panel is not seen here, but it is teased to sport a dual- hole-punch design with two selfie cameras.

The Realme X50 5G phone is confirmed to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC, and will support dual-channel Wi-Fi and 5G connectivity. Past teasers also suggest support for enhanced VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge technology that will take 30 minutes to charge the phone’s battery to 70 percent. It will also be equipped with a five-dimensional ice-cooled heat dissipation system to offer 100 percent coverage on the device.

Rumoured specifications of the Realme X50 5G include 6.44-inch AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, a large 4,500mAh battery, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage option. The quad camera setup at the back should include a 64-megapixel main sensor, and the dual selfie setup should include a 32-megapixel camera and an 8-megapixel camera.

Huawei Mate X Foldable Phone’s Successor Launching in H2 2020: Report

Huawei will reportedly launch its next-gen Mate X foldable phone in the second half of 2020. The company is reported to be working on the phone already, and small volume trial production of components has already begun. The Huawei Mate X was launched earlier this year, but availability was delayed till November to ensure satisfactory build quality. Samsung also had durability issues with its first foldable phone, and the Galaxy Fold successor is now expected to launch alongside the next Galaxy S series flagship in February this year.

A Digitimes report claims that the next-gen Huawei Mate X foldable phone will launch in H2 2020. This is in contrast with a recent report that suggests that an improved version of the Mate X with Kirin 990 SoC is expected to launch at MWC 2020. This Mate X upgrade is said to carry an improved design with better hinge and a more resistant display as well. It could be possible that the report is talking about a proper successor of the first foldable phone, and not just an ‘improved version’. This is pure speculation from our end, and we expect more clarity as and when Huawei decides to make some announcements around its foldable phone segment.

This reported launch information has been sourced via Taiwan supply chain makers, and some suppliers have even begun small-scale trial production of components for the next-gen foldable phone. The report doesn’t detail the design changes or the big features on the upcoming Huawei foldable phone, but it notes that Taiwan suppliers see promising potential in the unique segment next year. These suppliers have even begun expansion projects for this purpose.

For instance, hinge maker Jarllytec looks to install extra batch furnaces in 2020 that will help in producing more metal injection moulding (MIM parts for foldable phones. This firm has reportedly partnered with two Chinese smartphone brands to produce hinges for their foldable phones, hinting that more OEMs may launch foldable phones next year.

MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G SoC for Mid-Range Phones Unveiled: Report

MediaTek has announced a new 5G SoC – the MediaTek Dimensity 800 – targeted at mid-range smartphones. As the name clearly suggests, the Dimensity 800 SoC will be positioned below the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G SoC that is targeted at high-end smartphones. The Taiwanese chipmaker has revealed that the MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G SoC will make its way to mid-range smartphones in the second quarter next year, but so far, there is no word on the brands that will employ MediaTek’s latest offering. However, the company has not divulged technical details about the MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G SoC yet.

As per an ITHome report, the MediaTek Dimensity 800 SoC will be officially launched in Q1 2021, while phones powered by it will arrive in the second quarter. Details such as the transistor or die size, core architecture, clock speed, GPU, and 5G modem are still under the covers, but more information will most likely be revealed in Q1 next year when MediaTek officially launches the Dimensity 800 SoC for the global market.

Details about a new mid-range 5G SoC from MediaTek carrying the model number MT6873 emerged last month. It is tipped to employ the in-house Helio M70 5G modem and will reportedly have two Cortex A76 cores for doing the heavy-lifting, while the remaining six will be Cortex-A50 series cores. The chip was rumoured to enter mass production in Q2 2020, which is also when the new report says the first phones powered by the Dimensity 800 SoC will arrive.
