How to care for your BP-70A battery.

This is the Replacement Samsung BP-70A Battery, You can extend the life of your BP-70A battery significantly through the proper care and handling of your battery.

  • Any new BP-70A battery should first be fully charged by leaving it plugged in overnight. Once a computer battery is fully charged it will no longer accept any more power. It is a common practice to leave Cameras plugged in after they have been turned off so that the battery has a full charge the next time you use your Camera. It is probably fully charged within 5 hours.
  • A brand new BP-70A Camera battery is in a weakened condition since it has not been conditioned yet. Condition and break in your new battery by performing 5 partial discharge and recharge cycles the first week you receive your new battery.
  • Run on battery power without the AC adapter cord at least once a week to keep the BP-70A battery cells active and at their peak potential. When your Camera is plugged into the power adapter the battery goes to ‘standby mode’ while your Camera runs directly on electricity from the wall outlet.
  • Even though your battery indicates it is fully charged, your battery will return to a weakened state again in a few months if it does not get some exercise through partial discharge and recharge cycles while running on battery power alone.
  • If your BP-70A battery has not been actively used 2 months or more, condition your battery again with 5 partial discharge & recharge cycles to increase the batteries capacity and run time.
  • Don’t run your battery all the way to empty. Your battery will have a longer service life if it receives shallow discharge and recharge cycles. Research has shown that the useful life of the battery will be much longer if you begin to recharge the battery any time before reaching 20% of the remaining power capacity. Recharging the BP-70A battery even after 10 minutes will not reduce the battery’s life span as lithium batteries do not have the memory effect which was found in older NiCad battery technology. NiCad batteries have never been used in Cameras, even the earliest models.
  • Never run your battery below the 2% critically low warning point. If your battery is run below this point it may not have enough energy to even recharge. This may effectively ‘kill’ your BP-70A battery.

How can I extend your battery run time?

You can extend your BP-70A battery run time by minimizing the power drain on your battery. A 3 cell battery will run approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours when the battery is new. Even longer times can be achieved by minimizing the power consumption of your laptop. Here are the top ways to reduce your power consumption.

  • Avoid using the CD or DVD drive as the motor consumes a fair amount of power.
  • Turn off your wireless finder if you are not using the internet.
  • Remove any devices plugged into your USB ports or other ports.
  • Close out programs you are not using. By minimizing the load on your CPU, sometimes you can avoid having the cooling fan turn to its high speed mode.
  • Increase your memory to 4 Gigabytes. This creates less work for your hard drive. Data is temporarily written to your hard drive when your memory is not sufficient to hold all the data on the many pages you may be accessing.
  • Reduce the brightness of your laptop screen. This is the number one drain on your battery by far.

Canon launches the EOS M50 Mark II with new tap-to-focus and YouTube Live streaming features

Canon has announced the second-gen EOS M50 interchangeable-lens camera. Its maker asserts that it packs the best features of its immediate predecessors, along with attractive new features for content-creators and vloggers. Chief among these are vertical video and access to Wireless YouTube Live streaming, albeit with certain caveats (for example, the channel in question must have at least 1000 subscribers).

The EOS M50 Mark II is rated for up to 24p 4K UHD recording. It also has a new vari-angle LCD touchscreen, which supports new buttons that start a recording and act as a movie self-timer. It can also respond to taps that auto-focus on a subject while simultaneously using the EVF, thus keeping a subject in focus.

The Canon EOS M50 Mark II will become available in late November 2020, and will sell for around US$599.99. That estimated price is for the body only, however, although it will also be available in bundles with the EF-M 15-45mm lens for $699.99 or with that lens and the EF-M55-200mm double zoom lens for $929.99.

Leaked GoPro Hero 9 Black protective replacement lens cover suggests that GoPro has listened to its fans

GoPro made several strides forwards with last year’s Hero 8 Black, but the removal of the protective replacement lens cover was not one of them. Effectively, this change made it difficult to remove the lens cover from the Hero 8 Black, as The Verge discovered during its review of the action camera. GoPro has addressed this with this year’s camera, the Hero 9 Black, though. It is unclear why GoPro has u-turned on this, but the volume of complaints about the removal of the lens cover suggests that GoPro has listened to its fans.

The news comes courtesy of Roland Quandt, who tweeted a picture of the new protective replacement lens cover on Friday. The lens cover will protect the Hero 9 Black’s 23.6 MP camera, which is an upgrade on the 12 MP sensor in the Hero 8 Black. The new camera will allow the Hero 9 Black to shoot in up to 5K at 30 FPS like last year’s Hero Max. Additionally, the Hero 9 Black will support newer versions of HyperSmooth and TimeWarp technologies.

Another big change for the next GoPro Hero will be the switch to a colour front display. It is unclear how this display will be utilised, but it is larger than the one that GoPro included on the Hero 8 Black. Similarly, the Hero 9 Black will feature a 41% larger battery than its predecessor, which will have a capacity of 1,720 mAh. While the Hero 9 Black sound like a substantial upgrade over the Hero 8 Black, the former’s price reflects these changes. According to Quandt, GoPro will price the Hero 9 Black at €479 – over 11% more than the launch price of the Hero 8 Black.

Alpha A7c: A “new concept is coming” on September 15 for Sony’s Alpha camera series

Sony has published a live stream for its next Alpha camera, dubbed as a new concept for the series. The company will unveil the camera on September 15 at 10:00 JST (01:00 UTC) or September 14 18:00 PDT. Sony has not revealed what the concept is, but past rumours suggest that it will be the Alpha A7c.

According to Sony Alpha Rumors, the Alpha A7c will have a 24 MP sensor and the articulating screen from the A7s III. The website claims that Sony has brought the autofocus algorithm from the A7s III. By contrast, the A7c will share its body shape with the A6600 and will have in-body image stabilisation (IBIS).

Sony Alpha Rumors has also provided a mockup of the A7c, which we have included below. The upcoming camera will have an NP-FZ100 battery too, along with a USB Type-C port, a single SD card slot and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Dedicated headphone and mic-in jacks will be onboard, too.

In terms of pricing, Sony Alpha Rumors expects Sony to pitch the A7c at €2,100. This price would make the A7c more expensive than the A7 III, for reference.
